Kaitlyn's Birthday (April 13)

Here are a few pictures from Kaitlyn's birthday party. She had a great birthday and got lots of clothes and fun stuff. We had about 20 people in our small house. It was pretty crowded.

This last picture brings me to the new Kaitlyn surprise.
She is walking!!

Yep, Friday afternoon when Michele came home from work, I jokingly told Kaitlyn to walk to mom. She actually took off walking. I think all three of us were surprised. She now can walk almost all the way across the living room with no assistance (When she wants to). She is also able to stand in one place for several seconds before either sitting down or continuing walking. She always does new things around holidays. Memorial Day is coming soon, I wonder what she will show us then?

Ok, so I'm behind.

As some of you know, Kaitlyn has been sick quite a bit lately. In February, we took her to the Children's Hospital in Little Rock to have some tests done. One test was to see if she had reflux where they put her to sleep and put a scope down her throat. The other test was a Ph probe where they put a tube in her nose which monitored her for 24 hours. This was also to test for reflux. That was probably the longest 24 hours ever. She had a tube in her nose and an IV in her foot. She couldn't walk because of the IV and couldn't crawl due to the restraints on her arms. We had to hold her nearly the whole time. All the tests from that visit were fine. This past week we went down for another test. This one was a swallow study to see if liquids were going down her airway to her lungs, which we saw was happening. We are on orders to thicken all Kaitlyn's liquids to honey consistency. She doesn't seem to mind this very much and hasn't been very sick lately. Below are some pictures from the Feb. visit.

Still kind of asleep. The things on her arms "no-nos" are to keep her from pulling out the tube in her nose. She couldn't bend her arms at all for the whole 24 hours. I didn't know if we were going to make it.

It wasn't all bad though. We had some happy moments too.

She just doesn't know what is going on.

We finally got to take the "no-nos" off and its off to the playroom.

We were not really in a room for this 24 hour period. It used to be an ICU area where they had 10 beds sectioned off by curtains. We could hear everybody around us crying and talking. Kaitlyn really done great considering she had her arms restrained and an IV in her leg the whole time.

Kaitlyn Update...

This past month has been a busy one for Kaitlyn. On November 24th she started saying "da-da" and has not stopped since. She had a great Christmas. She opened all her presents with minimal help from mom and dad. She was so good at tearing paper. We would also like to thank Uncle Duncan and Auntie Chris for the sleepers and book. That is her favorite book to travel with.

Kaitlyn has been eating new foods. She now eats off our plate. No more buying little jars of baby food. She really likes eating at Cracker Barrel. We are going to have to start cooking extra for Kaitlyn to eat at daycare or she is going to be eating from the cafeteria. We also bought some little fruit puffs for snack. She can pick them up and put them in her mouth without any help from us. She is also started trying to hold the spoon and feed herself. Also, she enjoys drinking out of her new "sippy" cup. She wanted one with a straw.

Kaitlyn also started crawling three days ago. Michele wasn't home when she crawled for the first time, but I was lucky enough to get in on video. Sorry I can't post it. The video is on a camcorder and I have no way to plug it up to my computer.

We could only show one ear. We could not show both ears in the same picture due to her chubby cheeks blocking the ears. Kaitlyn done wonderful. She cried but mainly because we had to hold her so still. As soon as it was over we gave her a bottle and the pain seemed to be gone because she played the rest of the time in Wal-Mart. She just does so good with needles.
